Noctua NF-F12 120mm PWM Fan @ viperlair.com [Dec-15-11] (0 Comments) All in all, there is plenty on offer from the Noctua NF-F12 120mm P WM Fan and frankly their needs to be. At around 17 UK or $25 US it is a comparatively expensive item. Value is going to be subjective here though. The Noctua NF-F12 120mm PWM Fan is very quiet in operation, even at full sp eed and what little noise it does make is a slightly deeper tone than most other fans. Despite running at a low noise, it can still push a fair amount of air through restrictive items. You can further decrease the 1500 RPM to 1200 RPM via the included L.N.A. (Low Noise Adapter) and still maintain si milar performance. Also, Noctua have seen fit to give the NF-F12 120mm Fan a short 4 wire PWM power cable for CPU cooler use as well as a much larger sleeved extension cable. You also get regular fan screws and rubber bolts t o mount the Noctua NF-F12 120mm PWM Fan with. NZXT Beta Classic Series Case @ bigbruin.com [Jul-24-09] (0 Comments) The NZXT Beta's attractive styling, solid construction, enthusiast-inspired features, and tool-less (mostly) design offer most of the features one would look for in a new case. [News] XPad Slim Laptop Cooler @ virtual-hideout.net [Jun-21-09] (0 Comments) As you all should know by now, We've reviewed a ton of laptopcoolers/desks here on VH and I'm personally done most of them. The XPad Slimcould be a good addition to someone out there in need of something to putunder their laptop to keep the heat off their legs. However I cannotoverlook the price and quality of the unit that I was shipped. The odddesign with the logo on the bottom and the bottom looking like the top justfeels weird to me. The part of the unit that's in direct contact, or closestto the super hot bottom of the laptop is just ABS plastic. How is that anybetter than using your laptop on a TV tray or lid from a Rubbermaid tote? The slots cut into the 4 corner coolers are functional to a point, butmostly for looks. Proper cooling needs proper airflow and the XPad Slim hasneither. V-Moda Vibe II Headset @ legitreviews.com [Jan-23-09] (0 Comments) We used our Denon AVR receiver, Apple iPhone, Blackberry Bold, Cowon A2, and Dell Precision laptop computer as our test devices to drive the headset. We found that the new design on the V-Moda Vibe II headset had very slight improvements over the original Vibe and Vibe Duo. Bass response seemed to have improved over earlier versions producing really chest-thumping lows without distortion. We all may not get to play as much as we use to, butthe gaming industry still proves to be the vital force that motivates thelikes of Nvidia, ATI, and Intel to bring us faster Graphics cards whichfurther perpetuates the creation of better video games. If you weren't rubbing elbows with the game makers or testing out a soon tobe released game title, one could walk across to the Free Play area and hopon any one of the 150 Intel sponsored PCs to play a few rounds againstothers in a LAN. It certainly takesprecedent over the now ageing but still hugely popular Corsair HXseries, though when you compare it to the Dark Power Pro 650W itdoesn't quite cut it. Don't get us wrong though, it's still anexcellent purchase if you don't want a Be Quiet!, but be prepared tothrow out the craptacular rubber surround because it can survivewithout it. On the whole, it feels like a very good product, but oneattempting to be better than it is, albeit made up by a good price. Precisely two months ago, I was stillsitting in a classroom, scribbling down notes and preparing for exams. Thenthere's the excitement of the stuff I have planned for the summer afterexams. And of course, I was often found at various car dealerships checkingout the latest releases (And of course test driving, which is just my excuseto redline cars) -- that aside, what I'm talking about is that I have thisThermaltake Toughpower Cable Management 650W modular power supply sittinghere at APH Networks for the last two months before I even started thisreport. Historically, I haven't been a big fan of Thermaltake power supplies.I owned quite a few of their cases, which were excellent. But the powersupplies, at least back in the days, were low in price but not really the'tier 1' performance that I'd come to expect. Generally speaking, this powersupply didn't capture much of my attention either due to my personalimpression. When I finally decided to open it and check what was inside overa month later, and did some research online, it seemed to me that theToughpower Cable Management 650W offered incredible performance across theboard. Maxtor BlackArmor 160GB @ reviews.digitaltrends.com [Jul-29-08] (0 Comments) If you're the paranoid type or just someonewho cannot afford to have his or her datastolen, the Maxtor BlackArmor external backupdrive will likely bring you a large dose ofpiece-of-mind. Data on the drive is encryptedwith a key at the hardware level usinggovernment-grade 128-bit AES encryption, soif you lose it whoever finds it will havezero chance of recovering the data. Evenbetter, if someone steals the drive anddoesn't have the password, they can reformatthe drive but the process destroys theencryption key, making all the datainaccessible even by data recoveryprofessionals. This high level of securitycomes with a high price tag though, and thedrive also suffers a few design drawbackstoo, so you should only consider it if datasecurity is a top priority. We know that AMD's 45 nmdesign works, which is something we were not necessarily quite sure about upuntil this point. We also know that there is some more headroom in terms ofclockspeed, with the sample hitting 2.8 GHz at 1.224 volts and 3.4 GHz at1.588 volts. Sony HDR-SR12 @ reviews.digitaltrends.com [May-23-08] (0 Comments) The popularity of hard disk drive standarddefinition and high-def camcorders continuesto climb. Nothing beats the storagecapability of a HDD video maker-just think, you can record hour after hour of babygiggles, if that's your thing (and newparents, you can admit it). Hard drive camsare great for everyone else too since you canrecord anything to your heart's content formuch longer than any tape or disk-basedsystem. And nothing beats the instantlygenerated thumbnails that let you hop fromscene to scene during playback. Sonydominates the HDD market for SD and HD videomakers-just as they do every other camcorderformat. That said we were happy to get ourhands on the new HDR-SR12, the company'stop-of-the-line HDD model that records FullHD 1920 x 1080I video along with 10-megapixeldigital stills to a hefty 120GB hard drive. The camcorder even has Face Detection, thedigicam feature du jour that works for videoand stills. Even though there were notoddlers in the house, we definitely wantedto start recording ASAP. [News] ASUS DRW-2014 L1T DVD-RW @ virtual-hideout.net [Apr-14-08] (0 Comments) As far as DVD optical drives go, the Asus DRW-2014L1T is right onpar with a lot of the other drives in its class. The LightScribe is a bonusfor those who like to label their discs. Most drive noise is created whenthe optical disc starts to wobble and vibrate. This vibration is transferredto the drive motor and tray, thus making the noise. The QuieTrack featureand Auto Vibration Reducing System seem to work really well, as the noiselevel from a spun up disc was low. FlextraLinkT prevents buffer under runproblems caused by an empty data buffer, thereby eliminating the creation ofCD-coasters. This technology is similar to, and seems to work as well as,other companies' buffer under run technologies. Xigmatek HDT- S1283 - XSs @ xsreviews.co.uk [Apr-10-08] (0 Comments) CPUcooling has always been important for the overclocker, but due todual and quad cores it's becoming increasingly important for the casualuser too. Water cooling and phase change are both great ways of coolinga CPU; however the extremes of these methods are both very expensiveand can be rather risky. This is the reason why Air Cooling is stillused today, though don’t label it as boring, air cooling has changeddramatically over the past 3 years.Today I will be looking at the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 which featuresanti-vibration rubber and a 120mm ‘quiet’ fan. Thermaltake Bigwater 760i Water Cooler @ legitreviews.com [Mar-26-08] (0 Comments) For my first venture into water I learned a lot, and the main thi ng is that it's not nearly as hard or complicated as I thought. That ma y be due to the Thermaltake Bigwater 760i kit, but either way the whole p rocess was very easy. It took all of 30 minutes to do the pre-install and fill the system, the long part was the bleeding the air from the system and leak test. I chose to do this out of the case for the fact it was eas ier to fill the tank and work the bubbles out of the lines. That and the nagging thought of a leak... Enermax Pro 82+ 625W power supply @ bit-tech.net [Mar-21-08] (0 Comments) The Enermax Pro 82+ 625W power supply is an excellent unit thatdelivers great performance, but sadly all of the hard work done thereis marred by an asking price that prices it out of the competition. Ifthe market wasn't full of great power supplies at lower price points,we would argue that the Enermax was worth the much higher asking price.Unfortunately for Enermax though, there are a lot of very good products(some with higher ratings) that perform as well as the Pro 82+ 625W.We raised the serious price concerns with Enermax (...are youserious?) when we first talked about and tested the Pro and Modu 82+PSUs. When told the RRP before launch (it has dropped by only a fewpounds since then), it was clear that Enermax had an uphill strugglebut the bottom line is that it doesn't matter how good the product isif the asking price is far, far too high to remain competitive. As apredominantly PSU-centric company, I hope Enermax realise this soon andnot sit in a warm bubble back patting from the impressive performanceresults it is getting, otherwise it'll not notice people are shoppingelsewhere. Arctic Cooling Silentium T2 Eco 80 @ bit-tech.net [Mar-16-08] (0 Comments) In the words of Sam Beckett:“Oh, boy.”Really, it’s hard to know where to begin with a case like the SilentiumT2 ECO 80. On paper, Arctic Cooling’s intentions are cleary for thegood and aiming in all the right directions. The idea of using rubberaround the fans to prevent vibration and using heatsinks instead offans to cool the HDD is fine and we of course love anything that canhelp make computing a more environmentally friendly hobby. The real problem though is that the execution is terrible and thefinished product is really just a mish-mash of ruined ideas. On somelevel it’s actually quite depressing and there’s a distinct feelingthat if the Silentium T2 was a person then it’d be a bright andpromising young student who got tragically mauled by asledgehammer-wielding Rottweiler. The whole case just stinks of good ideas gone wrong and bad ideas leftto run rampant. In the end, with a number of structural problems, poorthermal performance and a generally unappealing look it’s hard torecommend the T2 to anyone. Frankly, this is the type of thing wereally do wish Arnold Schwarzenegger would come back from the future todestroy. A shame. A Lost Cause @ cooltechzone.com [Mar-10-08] (0 Comments) OLPC is a lost cause. It's amazing how an otherwise interesting project with headline-grabbing mission could spiral out of control with disastrous results. The project has always had noble intentions. I can't fault them for that. Anytime an organization is giving back to the community and contributing back to society is a good organization in my book. However, the management is ludicrous. Not only did they not realize the magnitude of the ramifications for changing their mission, but they couldn't pinpoint their ultimate desire either. Universe @ bit-tech.net [Feb-17-08] (0 Comments) Universe at War:Earth Assault isn’t going to be to the likingof all RTS buffs and those who prefer historically themed or moreserious flavours of strategy games will most likely have already foundthe way out. However, Universe at War does have some excellentlybalanced gameplay going for it and the interface is beautifully setout, proving always helpful and never a hindrance. Does the game have problems? Certainly. The graphics in cutscenes are abit lacklustre, the game did prove to be very CPU intensive when wegathered a lot of units together on screen and at times even our newmighty gaming rig had to suffer a bit of slow down and the field ofview is quite limited too. In fact, the FOV is probably the biggestproblem – not being able to zoom out very far really limits thetactical options available to players when the larger robots or HabitatWalkers lumber on-screen.That said though, Universe at War has a lot going for it,so if you can look past the campy B-movie plot and stomach somesemi-awful voice acting then you may be pleasantly surprised at whatyou find beneath the rubble. Watercooling Fluid Shootout @ bit-tech.net [Feb-17-08] (0 Comments) But all of this was for one worthy goal is there a fluid thatreignssupreme? Does anything do water's job better than water? The numbersdon't lie nothing is better than pure, straight up water so far, atleast where temperatures are concerned. But there are a couple fluids that perform just as well, and their sidebenefits of colouring, anti-corrosion and (most of all)non-conductivity make them well worth your time. Though temperaturesare our primary concern, I've also made sure to note other aspects ofeach fluid that can have an effect on overall usability colouring, bubble dispersion, and clean-up.So which ones are truly better than water, when you take all of thisinto account? Halo 3 and The Art of Repetition @ bit-tech.net [Feb-06-08] (0 Comments) Let’s take Halo 3, and, before I actually say anythingabout Halo 3,I should make a disclaimer digression. I had put up some articles aboutrepetition in games on my blog, and how I felt that repetition issometimes a good thing (more on that later), and may have implied thataspects of the Halo 3 campaign could have benefited from somemore repetition, and I ended up with some comments that went somethinglike this:“Variety is the spice of life. Games with repetition suck. Your gamewill suck and no one will play it.”Now, I think I’ve played through the Halo 3 campaign about halfa dozen times. I love the game—I even pre-ordered it. I enjoy fanboyspeculation about Halo’s association to Marathon. While this does not make me an expert in all things Halo, I think it atleast gives me license to critique and comment. So I say:fanboys, stand down!hat out of the way, the critique goes like this:imagine you areplaying through Halo 3for the first time. You play as the legendary saviour of humanity, whoplays it cool while expertly wielding a massive arsenal to mow downwave after wave of baddies. However you have a somewhat foggy idea ofwhere to go next, what a missile pod does, how all of those crazy newitems work, the feel of a Spartan laser, and so on. So here’s themismatch:in cut scenes, the Master Chief is extremely cool andconfident, but under the control of the first time gamer, the MasterChief is suddenly acting like some bewildered idiot, fumbling withbubble shields and flamethrowers.Games like Marathon and BioShock succeed instorytelling because the main character can be a bewildered idiot. In Marathon, you’re a space marine who lands on a colony ship with very little ideaof what’s going on, when suddenly aliens start attacking and AIs startfighting over you. BioShock is roughly the same story—you landon an underwater city, things start attacking you, and greater powersstart fighting over you via the radio. You’re a dummy with a big gun,and everyone knows and is willing to exploit this fact. Tomb Raider:Underworld p @ bit-tech.net [Feb-01-08] (0 Comments) One of the biggest changes to the game however has been at amuch morefundamental level the structure of the levels themselves. In the past, Tomb Raider has been like most games of thegenre run, gun, puzzle, solution, run, gun. Wash, rinse, and thenrepeat. Levels are structured to be extremely linear and Lara mustovercome puzzles in a specific order. Underworld changes that, harnessing what the developers arecalling a new multi-level approach to the puzzles. The new structure is simple; there are fewer levelsonly about eightapparently when we saw the game in actionbut those levels are much, much larger and complex. It isnt like Legend where Lara isalways moving forwards, its much more like the St. Francis Follylevel in Anniversary. The solutions to puzzles are often more than just a room away andarent just limited to grabbing the right coloured key. Puzzles requirethought, understanding and a close attention to the story. Akasa revo Bubble Pump cooler @ xtremecomputing.co.uk [Jan-30-08] (0 Comments) OK, so what I can understand is that the Revo works by having a mix of coolant in the cooling-loop. Part of the coolant is liquid and part of it is a liquid that expands to a gas under the heat of the CPU (and cools back to a liquid when it passes through the radiator). There is a mini reservoir in the base of the cooler, and as the coolant gets hot it moves up the big pipe, and the resulting convection system moves it all around the cooler. The coolant that changes to gas creates bubbles in this loop and these help move the liquid round (somehow). Scythe Ninja Copper 6 Heat Pipes CPU Cooler @ pro-clockers.com [Jan-18-08] (0 Comments) The new Ninja, which is simply dubbed as the Ninja Copper orSCNJ-CU1000 for the technical geek, is upon us. About 90% of the cooler is made of copper except the bolts thathold the heat pipes in place and the bottom aluminum thick fins that areattached atop the base. And being made of copper it is obvious this coolerwill be heavy and it is a whooping 1015 grams of copper. Asus EAH3870 TOP @ bit-tech.net [Jan-07-08] (0 Comments) This is the closest that an AMD/ATI-based graphics card has gottocompeting with Nvidia at the same price point for some time now, butthere are still cases where even this factory overclocked Radeon HD3870 from Asus disappoints me a bit. It pains me to say that becausethe Radeon HD 3870 is a truly fantastic product that we are big fans ofat bit-tech.The penalty for enabling anti-aliasing is the single most disappointingdownside and in particular I’m referring to 4xAA performance comparedto what else is on the market at the same price. We’re now in 2008 andone would hope that a performance mainstream graphics card is able tocope with 4xAA enabled at respectable settings and resolutions in mostgames. Of course, Crysisis an exception to this rule (and probably will be for some time tocome), but there are still times where the performance drop is muchlarger than what we’re used to seeing on ATI-based graphics cards ofdays gone by.On the whole though, the card looks to be a great choice as long asAsus meets its suggested retail price and that you also know about thesometimes extreme AA performance penalty. However, our suggestion wouldbe to look at one of the cheaper Radeon HD 3870s on the market, pocketthe difference and then dabble in a bit of overclocking. We say thisbecause although the Asus EAH3870 TOP gets close to a similarly pricedGeForce 8800 GT, it never really matches it in every scenario. OCZ Vendetta @ bit-tech.net [Dec-23-07] (0 Comments) For the size, theOCZ Vendetta is exceptionally capable, providing yourun the fan at full speed. If you're anything like us, that'll justdrive you nuts, however it seems that some in our community have agreater tolerance to these things so it could suit them well. Using theincluded 4-pin connector on the fan works well, providing yourmotherboard has the facility to use it – although you can still swap itfor any 92mm of choice and take the performance hit. However, does thecost of an extra 92mm fan on top of this heatsink simply equate to abigger heatsink altogether? The attention to detail, like the rubber fan mounts and pitted fins, isexcellent. In addition to its great build quality and because it'ssmaller than most heatsinks we’ve seen recently, it should easily fitmore restrictive boards as well. It's a great replacement for the stockIntel heatsink but some might not be sure if it's worth £5 more thanthe Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro which, at the same noise level, shouldperform fairly similarly to the Vendetta. Nvidia's 3-way SLI on nForce 680i SLI @ bit-tech.net [Dec-13-07] (0 Comments) I am actually quite pleasantly surprised at how well 3-way SLIactuallyworks at this early stage and, in fact, I’m almost lost for words –that’s generally not a good thing in my line of work. If you comparethis brief experience with the time we spent playing with Quad-SLI onsome of the top games at that point in time, they couldn’t be muchfarther apart. The difference is almost like night and day; north andsouth; east and west... you get the idea.Unlike Quad-SLI, which we had no end of problems with, this wasn’tsomething sent to us by Nvidia in a highly-polished gold flight case, packed to the brim with velvet bubble wrap. Not once did we experiencea crash during our time playing around with 3-way SLI and this was on asystem that was built and configured by ourselves... rather quickly Imight add.The downside of course is that this kind of set up is going to requiresome megabucks in order to see the benefits. You really need at least a1920x1200 screen (when you look at Crysison its own) and a 2560x1600 screen for anything else. That, on top ofthe graphics cards, is going to set you back about £2,000. Yeah, it’snot cheap. But then, Nvidia has never claimed that this would be anything butexpensive. In fact, the company’s representatives don’t expect to seemany users running 3-way SLI for that matter – it’s doing it justbecause it can; because it wants to. And knowing Nvidia’s CEO andPresident, Jen-Hsun Huang, quite well – I can probably guess at whathis reaction was to the hard words we dished out when Quad-SLI launched. He’s an enthusiast, a very determined and passionate guy and he couldhave hidden away from scaling to more than just two GPUs after theinitial failure with Quad-SLI. He didn’t though and I’m sure that hisdetermination is part of the reason why we’re seeing 3-way SLI beingannounced today. Apple iPod Nano (3rd Generation) @ cooltechzone.com [Sep-10-07] (0 Comments) We couldn't wait to get our hands on the latest of Apple's iPod musicplayers, as the company put on its annual show to update the mostsuccessful product line in its history last week. Needless to say, theindustry is buzzing once again and for a good reason. We've got to behonest though. When Jobs first showcased the new line, our jaws dropped. We were horrified with the new designs. They appeared to be chubby, clunkyand anything but sexy. Was Apple losing its touch with reality? Who wouldwant an out of shape iPod? Certainly not us. But we were wrong. Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Paste @ tweaktown.com [Jul-30-07] (0 Comments) Of course, when it comes to cooling there is more than just the cooler. Besides the normal considerations of airflow and such, the Thermal Interface Material (TIM) plays a huge role in the overall effectiveness of the cooling solution. This holds especially true for those diehard overclockers where even small variations in temperature can make a difference in terms of processor speed.Enter the above mentioned Arctic Cooling with a new TIM they have dubbed MX-2. While there are not that many players in this market area, the names that are out there have a huge reputation. So relax for a few as we take a look at this newcomer in the TIM market and see if it has what it takes to be a worthy consideration for your next project. Antec P182 Mid-Tower Case @ thetechlounge.com [Jun-27-07] (0 Comments) Cases are one of the least frequently updated PC parts. You might get a newmotherboard and CPU, more RAM and a bigger hard drive, but you stick thoseparts in the same old case. Even my own workstation - if you added up theage of all the parts in the PC (my parts have an average age of 10 months)they'd still be collectively younger than my case (six and a half years). But the time comes, and the bell tolls for these old cases. Once at the topof their game, they now are relegated to the cellar. Bigger fans and fancierfeatures make the old cases look prehistoric. Features like cable routing, integrated rubber spacers for vibration abatement and rubber grommets forrouting your liquid cooling tubes are all the rage these days. Samsung Digimax A7 7-Megapixel Digial Camera @ thinkcomputers.org [Jun-27-07] (0 Comments) It really doesn't seem that long since you paid big bucks to own a1.3 megapixel digital camera, and today I'm reviewing a budget-priced 7 mpjobber. Man! Digital cameras today have attained such a high opticalquality, you wonder how much better they can get. Today, you can get a 1.3megapixel camera for $19.95. Or, you can pay well over 2 grand for aprofessional model 12 megapixel Nikon or Canon single lens reflex (SLR), andthat's the body only, add another $500-$1500 for a nice lens. Somewhere inthat field, there is a price range for the average person wanting a decentcamera. I feel that most people will end up paying somewhere between $125and $250 for a digital camera. ATI HD 2900 XT Vista Performance @ thetechlounge.com [May-31-07] (0 Comments) Hardware like video cards, especially high-end video cards, often fallunder the purview of the Enthusiast. An enthusiast is a computing hobbyistwith a kind of hardware pioneer's mindset. Never quite satisfied with wherehe or she is, enthusiasts tweak and modify, often risking and sometimesobliterating good hardware in attempts to find its limits. But there's oftenone territory that enthusiasts avoid:new operating systems. This makessense when you think of an operating system as the set of tools used totrailblaze hardware. How would you go digging when your shovel has a holethrough it? ATI's current flagship, the HD 2900 XT, runs about the same asNVIDIAs 8800GTS 640MB on computers using Windows XP. But that's patentlyirrelevant for Vista users. Here are the numbers from a side-to-sidecomparison:the pioneers of operating systems read on. The 2GB version, which we aretaking a look at today, has great chrome finishing to it, almostiPod-like, that makes the drive look rather spiffy. The build quality ofthe JumpDrive Lightning is also impressive, and you can tell the drive isa heavyweight contender in its category. BlackBerry 8800 @ xyzcomputing.com [Apr-11-07] (0 Comments) The softening of the BlackBerry's edges, even in a business model like this one, is due to the influence of the Pearl. The Pearl was their first model to use the trackball and have the slick new design, an aspect that previous models lacked. A quick glance at the Pearl (aka the 8100) and then at the 8800 will reveal how closely they are related. Of course the 8800 is larger, due to the use of a QWERTY keyboard, but both are slim and stylish. Compared to the stubbier 8700, both of these phones are more attractive and prove conclusively that business does not have to be boring. Moneual MonCaso 932B HTPC Case @ xyzcomputing.com [Jan-31-07] (0 Comments) Home entertainment is a very interesting thing. Enthusiasts are willing to spend large sums of money to get the right gear and a small upgrade to parts like tuners, televisions, and speakers can easily bring them from being reasonably expensive to downright unreachable for most consumers. HTPCs have followed this trend- while there is still a very strong enthusiast community lot of companies are beginning to sell expensive pre-built HTPC solutions that cater to hobbyists who want the best and are accustomed to spending a considerable amount of money on their equipment. This review will be taking a look at a company that most people have not heard of before, Moneual. These guys make a range of computer hardware, most of it aimed at home theater builders, and also sell full systems. The case we will be looking at, the MonCaso 932B, is their flagship HTPC enclosure and it is the same one used on the company's $4995 902T2 system. The Bloatware Co-Processor @ news.digitaltrends.com [Jan-30-07] (0 Comments) But let me tell you why the multinational Tier 1sbenefit from dual-core processing technology morethan their customers. It's quite simple. They load down their systems withextraneous software that you do not need and onlychew up clock cycles. Microsoft has dubbed thisbloatware =93craplets,=94 and they're worried it's goingto ruin Vista's reception by the public. Thesecraplets of course are revenue streams for the Tier1s. Gigabyte 3D Aurora case @ bit-tech.net [Nov-15-06] (0 Comments) The Aurora 570 is going to make an awesome choice for those looking to build their own watercooling set ups. For one, the dual 120mm fan mounts on the back make it very easy to mount a dual-size radiator on that panel, making for some fairly awesome internalised set ups. On the other hand, if you are looking to use an external, pre-made system, then the case has built-in rubberised holes to pass the tubing through - an awesome feature that we're starting to see on more cases. The holes mean you don't have to go fiddling hose through PCI slots, which is a definite bonus. Sumo Lounge Omni Bean Bag Chair @ xyzcomputing.com [Oct-24-06] (0 Comments) Sumo Lounge's Omni is not just any bean bag. The term 'bean bag' probably brings you back to your childhood and thoughts of a large foam-filled sphere with a rubbery exterior. Well, those days are long gone because the bean bag, if you can even still call it that, has gone high class. As seen in the Omni, and also in the Fatboy, there is a market for products like that one you used to kick around your basement, but with much higher quality and better design. Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultra Watercooling Kit @ overclockers.com.au [Oct-17-06] (0 Comments) ----Finally, I got to the point where the system was pretty much solid with opaque, light green liquid, which had lots and lots of air bubbles in suspension. This isn't great, but with a properly setup circuit (reservoir being at the top, remember?), all the air will filter to the top of the reservoir and the coolant in the circuit will slowly be purged of bubbles. You might want to tap and rotate the various components while the pump is running, so that bubbles will dislodge and be carried to the reservoir by the coolant.---- Antec Performance One - P180B @ computingondemand.com [Oct-02-06] (0 Comments) Having been around the block a few times, and having been burned afew times; I have my preferences in chassis'. Once you've unlocked a few of the levels offline, you can take on a mixture of friends (as in Friends-list friends) and worldwide rivals, and being able to employ the varied tactics of Samus' rival hunters is top fun. Whether you're just hovering above the fray with a charge-beam or leaving your gun-turret legs in the middle of an arena as you scoot around like a spinning top to hack at people's legs, there's strategy to what goes on. And, thankfully, you can only do voice comms in the game lobby. Playing online deathmatch FPS on a Nintendo DS is, frankly, pretty awesome. Digital Grabber News @ digitalgrabber.com [Mar-31-06] (0 Comments) If you have ever used map and compass, you will understand a little abouthow the GPS works. In order to find your position on a map, you need to havethree points of reference. The intersecting line from the reference pointsis where you are. Map and compass work uses triangulation (bearings), GPSuses trilateration (distances) to calculate location. Satellites orbitingthe earth emit unique signals that can be received by a GPS. The GPSsoftware interprets the signal, identifying the satellite that it came from, where it was located, and the time that it took for the signal to reach thesystem. Once the receiver has both time and distance it begins to determineposition. How Digital Signal Processing Works - Digital Grabber News @ digitalgrabber.com [Mar-29-06] (0 Comments) It happens that many people have no idea what Digital Signal Processingmeans, although they hear more and more often these words, today.Considering the name, Digital Signal Processing, people are lead towardsthinking that this procedure deals with digital signals. No; Digital SignalProcessing is a method of improving the quality of the analog signals, only.Indeed, the naming used is rather improper, because it relates to all typesof digital processing, only that the methods, and the techniques used in DSPdeal only with signals that are analog in nature. In the digital signalscase, we can only compress, encrypt, and translate them to other digitalformats; these (different) procedures do not require any DSP techniques.Using the DSP name when referring to digital signals causes confusion. Linksys WRT54GC Wireless Router - Digital Grabber @ digitalgrabber.com [Feb-27-06] (0 Comments) When connected directly to the router using the Ethernet ports, both LAN toWAN and WAN to LAN speed were measured at about 47Mbits per second. Notquite the 100Mbit/sec but a good performance neither the less. Wirelessperformance without the optional high gain antenna was superb for such asmall router. I measured wireless speed at 24.5Mbits/sec with my notebookright next to the router, dropping to 23.5Mbit/sec when I moved 15 feetaway. Speed dropped to 20.5Mbit/sec when I went into the next room and therewas a wall for the signal to go though. Basically this means you'll be ableto enjoy very fast wireless speed in your hotel room and your friends in thenext room will enjoy very good performance as well. Shutter Speed @ digitalgrabber.com [Feb-09-06] (0 Comments) Shutter speed and aperture values are at a constant tug-of-war concerninglight. Suppose someone was a handed a camera and was told that its apertureand shutter settings were set to ensure proper exposure using a shutterspeed of 1/60th and an aperture of F/8. However, suppose that they wanted afaster shutter speed to capture a moving object, so they set the shutterspeed to 1/250 and took a picture, they would get an underexposed photobecause they didn't allow the film to be exposed for the 1/60th of a secondit needed. Therefore, they would need to change the aperture to allow morelight in, perhaps by changing it to F/1.8, or whatever the maximum apertureof the lens is. It is always good once you have changed your settings tocheck them with a light meter and see if you are giving enough light forproper exposures. MSI's RD480 motherboard ed @ bit-tech.net [Jan-06-06] (0 Comments) The board's layout is well thought-out with very little to worry about around the CPU socket. We would like to see the same space around the second video card slot too, but that's a minor quibble that's not likely to be fixed on any motherboard. If you're looking to run SLI or CrossFire, you have to accept that your video subsystem is going to take up a considerable amount of space. Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro @ techpowerup.com [Dec-24-05] (0 Comments) Artic Cooling is famous for their video card coolers, but they offer more. The Freezer 64 Pro is the latest addition to their CPU coolers. Clever routing of airflow cools the motherboard voltage circuitry. Is this a good thing? There are 2 TV shows that I know of that are dedicated to modding, but it still is notfully mainstream yet. Some consider it an art form, some consider it a hobby and some say 'What's modding?' Browsing all the forumsI see lots and lots of mods, some are great and some are not so great. Razer Copperhead Gaming Mouse @ thinkcomputers.org [Oct-22-05] (0 Comments) The overall feel of the mouse does take some getting used to, the rubber grips on the side protrude out a bit too far in myopinion. The mouse itself is very lightweight, and moves with little resistance across my mousepad, which is an Xray Thunder9, roughsurface pad. The buttons on the left side of the mouse were easily accessible, but the buttons on the right were a bit difficult toreach, especially the second one located farther back on the mouse. I found myself actually moving my whole hand over to find thebuttons, the reason for this was, again, the rubber grip protrudes a bit to far, the buttons are located under the grip itself, andyou have to essentially maneuver your finger around and under the grip to reach the buttons, I found this very awkward and difficultto get used to. GN Netcom GN 6210 Bluetooth Headset @ xyzcomputing.com [Sep-08-05] (0 Comments) I am a big fan of the GN 6210's form factor; it is comfortable, and wor ks very well. The half moon design is quite comfortable; having the rubb er earbud placed within your ear makes calls seem much more audible at the same volume as other headsets without earbuds. The microphone works abs olutely fine in its sub-lobe location, rendering obsolete the need for an extended boom... Overall, the headset / base are very solid pieces o f equipment. While the overall price is higher than that of some other B luetooth headsets, the convenience of being able to pair to a landline mig ht definitely be worth the extra investment, especially for those who spen d most of the working day on the phone. Antec Phantom 500 Power Supply @ xyzcomputing.com [Aug-23-05] (0 Comments) The fact that computers must operate in close proximity to people means that any sound they produce is bothersome and extraneous. As quiet computing has grown from a hobby of a few people to a major part of the industry, the number and quality of the available quiet/silent parts has increased greatly. This review will be taking a look at Antec's new Phantom 500 power supply unit. Its predecessor, the Phantom 350, has been a huge hit for Antec and has become the benchmark for fanless power supplies. The Phantom 500 has been bumped up from 350W to 500W and also has a number of other interesting changes, the most important of which is the addition of a fan. A natural step in the evolution of makingcooling products is of course to move to water cooling. After all, it is thenew popular way to cool off those hot cpus and components. Well, Evercoolhas come up with a system that includes everything you need to water coolyour components, everything except water! It is the WC-202 Water Cooler.I've dabbled a bit in water cooling and other liquid types of cooling so Iwas very curious as to just how well this system would work... NEC MultiSync FE992-BK 19 Inch CRT Display @ xyzcomputing.com [Aug-17-05] (0 Comments) Although the focus of the display market has shifted to LCDs there are still those who are firmly sticking with their cathode ray tubes. Whether this is being done for value, color accuracy, or downright stubbornness varies case to case but the fact remains that CRTs still have their purpose. The computer industry, more so than most other fields, loves to write-off older technology but even cursory research into displays will reveal that CRTs still have much to offer. This review will be taking a look at NEC's new MultiSync FE992, a 19 fUnc F-10S / F-30R Mouse Pads @ insanetek.com [Aug-16-05] (0 Comments) Optical mice can run on pretty much all surfaces. Seasonic S12 380W Power Supply @ thinkcomputers.org [Jul-11-05] (0 Comments) Computer power supplies, there are SO many to choose from, in factmy next 4 reviews (including this one) are of power supplies! All themanufacturers claim theirs is the best, but which is really the best? Theyall are supposed to do so many things, and they all have lots ofabbreviations on them, what does it all mean to you and me? Just what is PFCor OTP,OPP,OVP?, and do you need it? Do you really need dual 12v rails?(Maybe I should write an article explaining all this stuff.) Anyway,Seasonic has been around for 20 years now, and they seem to be one of thehighly regarded suppliers of quality power supplies. The name Seasonic issynonymous with quality power supplies, today I have the honor of reviewingone of their newest offerings, the S12 series 380Watt power supply. Thermalrock Eclipse ATX Case @ xtremecomputing.co.uk [Jun-08-05] (0 Comments) The bays come with rubber grommets already installed. Using the provided thumbscrews gives a quick and tool-less hard drive installation. Installing hard-drives after the motherboard is a good idea, as they stick out into the motherboards general area. Compared to Samsungs 710N which we reviewed recently, this item is a vast improvement. The 710N was considerably thicker because it had a power supply built inside the monitor, whereas the 193P has an external power supply. Not only does this help keep the monitors dimensions down to a minimum, it reduces the heat very effectively. Interestingly, the 193P doesnt have a special ventilation holes to expel the hot air. Nevertheless I was surprised to find that the panel temperature was incredibly low even after 3 to 5 hours of heavy usage. After all, Corsair was the first to bring the LED lights on memory idea to reality. Although the company charged a premium solely for the LED lights, there was at least something in the market for the exclusive user who was looking to make their computer an extra special system with LED lights on possibly every component. Not surprisingly, the performance between Corsairs Pro and regular XMS series was identical, saving those who were not interested in the LED idea. Expensive or not, it was a novel idea that put Corsair one step ahead of the rest. Interview with Female Modder JessAlba452 @ Controlled Insanity [Feb-24-05] (0 Comments) Every now and then someone comes along into the modding community that really makes you do a double take. Someone that is a breath of fresh air in the dark, dank corners that we build our rigs in. Someone who is free of ego and is open to sit down and discuss their take on themselves, their mods, and the modding community. But best of all...this particular modder is a she, yep thats right a "Chick Modder". In what could be considered a male dominated hobby, along comes JessAlba452. And let me tell you she has made a big splash since the day she arrived. Coming from virtually out of nowhere and getting all of our male hormones revved up, she started on a project called VASH based on the Anime series Trigun. What was about to unfold was one of the best mods I have seen in a long time and the fact that it came from someone so new was astounding. V-Tech X-Focus7105H Mid-Tower Case Review @ GruntVillE [Feb-21-05] (0 Comments) Snugly packaged inside the box were the two case handles and the two case feet. The two can be distinguished by the textured rubber coating applied only to the ones that point down. Always keep the rubber side down, a good tip Ive learned from my motorcycle riding seems well applied in other areas too. The feet made from the same diameter steel as the case are quite sturdy and I dont think one need worry about over stressing them. They should be able to take your system weight and them some due to their rolled edges. L.I.S. POP LCD Display Review @ PC Unleash [Feb-17-05] (0 Comments) One of the components that dresses up a PC to ones personal tastes would be the multi-function panel. Its typically one of the most splendid parts of anyones PC, so dont overlook it. Starting last year, these front panel accessories began to flood the market, and different manufacturers have been focusing on designing one that will accent the individuality of ones PC. The whole purpose of these devices, after all, is to help the user to achieve a more unique, one-of-a-kind system. In short, to fill the void in the users soul. CES 2005 Article @ GruntVillE [Feb-03-05] (0 Comments) The first thing we do is hit the Intel booth so I can get a personal look at the masterpiece that is Stormbringer. I have to tell you, the pictures suck. Either Hobbes has a really crappy camera, or he is the one of the worlds worst photographers. It should have a standby time of 250 hours and a talking time of 5 hours. It should keep contact with the source within 5-10 meters and it should be small. My first impression of the headset is that it looks very plastic but when you take it into your hand you can feel the sturdy design with the rubber panel with two buttons, the two volume buttons and the plastic/rubber earhook. Corsair Flash Voyager 512MB USB 2.0 Drive @ OCIA.net [Jan-19-05] (0 Comments) Above we have a photo of the Voyager itself. As you can see, the exterior is constructed of rubber. This rubber construction makes for a water-resistant and shock-proof drive. Get caught outside in the rain or accidentally drop the drive down a flight of stairs? No worries! On the right side of the drive, you see a hook, which can be used to attach the drive to the included neck strap (kinda dorky, but if you use the drive frequently, it works great). I chose to attach my drive to my key ring. Next to the hook, we have the LED activity light. When activated, the LED flashes blue. The left side of the drive is where the USB 2.0 connector is, hidden under its protective cap. Flexiglow xRaider Mouse Pad @ ThinkComputers [Jan-12-05] (0 Comments) Mouse pads are getting more and more sleek and attractive in todays modding daysas we all know. Weve moved from the old rubbery ones of past into how many glowing colors or what type of awesome material itll use or just how huge they are. The addition of cold-cathodes and LEDs into computers and modding accessories has been the latest craze, and it is no understatement that just about everything is getting lit up. A4Tech NB-30: Battery Free Wireless Optical Mouse Review @ CoolTechZone [Nov-25-04] (0 Comments) A4Tech has recently announced their "no-battery" mouse, which is the worlds first optical mouse that operates without the use of batteries, at least to some degree. Undoubtedly this makes them unique and certainly attention grabbing, but is the innovation justifiable? As you will later find out, the price to performance ration may not be so desirable to many. While the company enters the market with a nice and innovative product, we do recommend that they consider some aspects of the products such as the price and the mouse pad. YY-5603 Mars Case review @ PC Unleash [Oct-30-04] (0 Comments) YYCase has been on the market for a while, but it wasnt until quite recently that they introduced a gaming case. The YY-5603, also known as the Mars, is a steep improvement from the earlier members of their line up, and it is obvious by its design that this case is being aimed directly at hardware enthusiasts. The most noticeable feature of this case is that it has an air duct placed above the processor. Besides that, Yeong Yang claims that this case is a thermal advantage chassis which is ready for P4 Prescott. The new version which we have today also seems to draw in air particularly effectively in the areas where expansion slots have been placed, resulting in better air circulation. SilverStone FP52 "Eudemon" Multifunction Fan Controller @ 3dvelocity.com [Oct-26-04] (0 Comments) As with so many great ideas today, its roots lie in the PC modding and enthusiast sector. The overall layout is similar to a normal 6800GT but Gainwards 6800GT offers Dual DVI that resembles what youd find with a 6800Ultra card. It is a delightful feature that only Gainwards 6800GT possesses, and it will help users achieve phenomenally high image quality by using two digital TFT-LCD monitors. ATI4 & NV5 silencer review @ PC Unleash [Aug-30-04] (0 Comments) The most noticeable feature on the silencer cooler is that it expels the heat completely outside the case, which not only helps the graphic card cool but also helps maintain the systems overall low temperature. This review will be short and simple, but it contains all the vital aspects regarding the performance of the new silencer. I have compared it with Gainwards stock cooler as well as the Geforce 6800 cooler. These will be used when trying to compare the performance of the Silencer. How To Protect & Backup Your Data @ The Tech Zone [Aug-27-04] (0 Comments) Death, Taxes, HD Loss Wont happen to you? Lets face some facts: 1. In the first half of the year virus scribblers unleashed 4677 new viruses or 26 a day and that was an increase of 21% over last year! No wonder security software companies do such a brisk business. 2. It doesnt matter which operating system you use MS, Apple, Unix, Linux these people who find it fun to take over your system or just destroy your data find ways in. 3. Protection software only protects you AFTER the stuff has been unleashed and has infected hundreds or thousands of systems. It isnt proactive. 4. Seagate just announced a five-year warranty on HDs but your mileage may vary. And when the drive goes south they may swap it out for you but what about all of your great, irreplaceable content? 5. According to people who keep these kinds of statistics lightning strikes somewhere in the country over 30 times a day. 6. According to Contingency Planning Research you are the cause of 50% of all computer disasters Silverstone's TJ05 review @ PC Unleash [Aug-12-04] (0 Comments) The TJ05 is quite big and heavy so it is not a portable case that can be easily transported to a lanparty. However, it is well suited as a server chassis or as the case for an enthusiast that requires a lot of devices to be installed. In addition, the case provides a low noise level and the 120mm fan controls heat quite well. Because the thermal controller is built inside, it doesnt clash with the overall design. With a reasonable price the case has many good features that can help users easily manage their system. Poseidon WCL-02/03 round up @ PC Unleash [Aug-10-04] (0 Comments) New Poseidon cooler has a lot of advantages. While water cooling is typically targeted for a small audience, comprised of extreme enthusiasts, the WCL series is targeted for everyone. It is designed in a way that makes its installation easier than ever before. Water cooling has just gotten friendlier, I dare say. I am starting to believe that 3Rsystem is the pioneer in this field and I have no doubt these water cooling kits will attract many more users to the world of water cooling. ATI HDTV Wonder PCI Review @ Ascully.com [Jul-26-04] (0 Comments) Times are a changing my friends. Television has just made the first significant leap in technology since the advent of stereo sound some ten years ago. I am talking about HDTV (Hi-Definition Television), something that is being beamed through the air and can be picked up free of charge by anyone with a pair of rabbit ears and a receiver. Aquagate water cooling kit review @ PC Unleash [Jul-22-04] (0 Comments) In the past, a water cooling system was mainly used by overclockers. Normal users didnt even consider the idea of using water cooling, since it involves a much more sophisticated installation procedure, as well as potential for damage being caused to the system by water leaks. However, if you think of the heat that is generated by a typical system nowadays, you can easily understand how the demand for water cooling is gradually increasing. Moreover, in the summer, reliance on air cooling for your system can even be dangerous, the system being more vulnerable to heat. Ive heard many complaints from users that in summertime they had to go back to the original clock. Antec Super LANBOY Review @ hardwareaccelerated.com [Jul-21-04] (0 Comments) The design of the case is extraordinary. As expected, their are no sharp edges to be seen. Upon inspecting the case I noticed a few nice surprises. First off, internal drive trays had rubber grommets supposedly to quite the case down a bit. And is this case quiet. You can barely hear it, espicially considering the two 120mm fans included (the front one being blue lit). Lian Li V1000 Review @ PC Unleash [Jul-13-04] (0 Comments) Lian Lis V1000 is a revolutionary product, breaking the stereotypical concept of what a case should be. Usually, if the product has visually appealing features, these sometimes act as the bottleneck on its performance. However, Lian Lis V1000 is not just easy on the eyes, but it combines practical performance and the appearance. This gives it a serious advantage, making it among the next generation of cases, I dare say. Razer Viper Gaming Mouse Review @ Twisted Mods [Jul-10-04] (0 Comments) Whether youre gaming for hours, scrolling through internet web pages, or designing in Photoshop, this mouse is perfect in everyway. The only drawback that I could find is the fact that there are only three buttons, but to some people this is not an issue. The rubber coated, long buttons work great for any game or application and never let your finger slip. The scroll wheel with its rubber grip and stiff scroll makes it easy to change weapons without any mistakes in game. Rubber grip side rails makes slipping impossible, and the Teflon feet on the bottom glide over any mouse pad surface extremely well...The Razer Viper is easily one of the best gaming mice on the market. Silverstone LC04 @ PC Unleash [Jul-06-04] (0 Comments) As you might have already known, an HTPC case has always been considered as a pricy product. Sometimes the price is outrageous despite their quality, and the people who were enthusiastic about these kinds of cases were usually AV maniacs. You can easily imagine that most people might just get discouraged by the price tag, and give up on owning an HTPC case. Gaming Bomb @ PC Unleash [Jun-30-04] (0 Comments) If you have only looked at a picture of the Gaming Bomb, you might have thought that the design isnt exactly what you would have expected. However, can you relate to the experience of going with a friend to a movie for which you had pretty low expectations? When you finish watching the movie, you realize that the movie was actually alot better than you ever would have guessed. Chenbros Gaming Bomb can be compared to that in a sense. Corsair 3200XLPro @ PC Unleash [Jun-25-04] (0 Comments) It is a well-known fact that speed is all important in the computer market. Back in the olden days, when there were not very many serious computer enthusiasts, a fast CPU was perhaps the most sought after component of a computer. That era has passed, and nowadays an extremely fast Video Card is what matters. Increasingly, however, serious users are beginning to understand the importance of RAM. For those of you who are just starting to take an interest in the RAM industry, this review might be a little confusing at first. Admittedly, I was confused at first. The truth is, there are so many different RAM producers out there that it often very difficult to decide which manufacturer has created the best upgrade. Glasperlenspiel, the heart mod @ PC Unleash [Jun-16-04] (0 Comments) Are you getting tired of always seeing the same kinds of mods? Nothing new and original, you say? Well then, take a look! This one is definitely out of the box. When I first saw the work of the modding artist, Yang (Jae Chul), I was definitely surprised by how this individual had managed to unleash his creativity. This is his masterpiece, and I would like to share it with the entire world. SquirrelBBS - new BBS system coming soon @ IceTeks [Jun-12-04] (0 Comments) SquirrelBBS will be developed by me on my spare time, however, my main goal is to always keep it free, and make it so everyone can use it how they want. There will be very little restrictions on it's use. IPB has inspired me to do this project as the direction they are going indicates that they will soon go fee-based, and it is sad to see a good BBS system go in the water like that. However, my plan is not to go against IPB and copy them exactly or rip them off, but simply offer an alternative to those who don't want to pay or see the word TRIAL written all over their own site. X800pro To X800XT Mod guide @ PC Unleash [Jun-07-04] (0 Comments) Since their advent, ATIs graphic cards have always commanded a lot of attention from the public. The new X800pro is no exception to this rule. While X800 Pro is now out at the market, many people are now considering the possibility that it can be transformed into the superior X800XT. After all, the underlying structures of the X800pro and the XT are quite similar. I am quite positive that the mod can be done, because I have succeeded, myself, in making the X800Pro into the X800XT PE. Allow us to show you how to do it yourself. Vintage HTPC Mod @ PC Unleash [Jun-04-04] (0 Comments) When it comes to modding, the possibilities are truly endless. Thousands of people might have the same exact case as you if you buy the ones that are in pre-made. But once you design a mod that is uniquely yours, then you can be sure that you possess a system that nobody else has! A lot of pride is visible in the systems of people who mod. VisionTek Xtasy X800 Pro Review @ COC [May-24-04] (0 Comments) In 1988 four friends started a small DRAM brokerage company in a small Chicago apartment. Can anyone guess what company this would be? If you guessed VisionTek you are right. Being one of the best graphics card manufacturers hasn't been an easy task for VisionTek in the past, especially starting with the switchover from nVidia cards to ATI not too long ago. Through all these changes VisionTek continues to deliver quality products at more than reasonable prices, but the best part is that long forgotten idea that always comes up if you have a technical problem. Can you call the company that you bought the card from and get decent service? If you even care about that concept then VisionTek is your best bet. Of course offering excellent technical service is all but one of VisionTek's missions, their other is to be a leading BBA (Built By ATI) developer and distributor. Seeing as how as of this date, VisionTek is the only available BBA x800 Pro, I think they accomplished this task. You can bet that ClubOC is greatly privileged at this point to be able to give the newest offering from VisionTek a whirl, but we're going to do one better and overclock the crap out of it! If you are an Overclocker like we are, you're gonna love this...but before we give you some insanely fast benchmark numbers, lets dig into the details of this phenomenal product. CD Player Sized Car PC @ PC Unleash [May-22-04] (0 Comments) Meng will demonstrate how he built this; his newest system. The system is professionally cut from a factory, but he requested that it come with a CAD file. The case material is comprised mainly aluminum alloy, and it is not an altogether heavily loaded system. It uses a Pentium 3 CPU, and the motherboard was produced by Altos. The technical skill Meng displayed in developing this mod is truly impressive, and I think you will agree that he has broken new ground in the field. I am also impressed by how reasonable the price is to create such an eye-catching PC 3Rsystens Poseidon WCL-03 @ PC Unleash [May-18-04] (0 Comments) As recent as a year ago, a water cooling system was considered an expensive accessory, even for the hardcore hardware enthusiast. VL Sys L.I.S 2 Premium Indicator @ PC Unleash [Apr-27-04] (0 Comments) You may not able to play PS2 games on it, but with this mod you will have a computer that looks like one. There are many mods that we can create with our imagination, visualizing how we might go about making them. However, the actual process of producing the mod is a very different story. It takes an incredible amount of time and patience to finish a masterpiece. VL Sys L.I.S 2 Premium Indicator @ PC Unleash [Apr-23-04] (0 Comments) Kappearance has become a very important factor in influencing which computers win out in the market. People are not willing to tolerate an ugly machine standing in the corner of their house anymore. We are becoming increasingly aware of a PC's appearance. We want something that is both distinctive and easy on the eyes. And of course, we want something that will shine and give its owner a feeling of satisfaction that he/she made the right choice. The dial is cleverly disguised as the outer ring of the fan grill. Markings on the side panel show low, medium and high speed with graphics. nVIDIA conference in Japan part II @ Pc Unleash [Apr-19-04] (0 Comments) We got some new updates on the Japans nVIDIA conference. Nam, used AutoCAD to design the layout. A laser was used to cut out the acrylic; to make the case more durable and efficient, he constructed 3 visible layers. Gigabyte RADEON9600XT @ Pc Unleash [Mar-12-04] (0 Comments) The brand new Gigabyte 9600XT comes with a heat pipe to reduce the noise level. It is largely based on ATI reference solutions, however the core clock has been boosted from 500 to 550. While the old version of 9600 XT had problems of a relatively small heatsink and fan, the biggest problem has is that it makes more noise than the ATI solution. The new heatpipe has taken care of these older problems. The strength from the new version of Gigabyte's Radeon 9600XT comes from the cooler. The heatpipe provides better heat conduction. The front-end ram is cooled by the front-end heat pipe, while the ram at the back is cooled by a huge heat sink. Making IE Standards Compliant @ /. [Mar-12-04] (0 Comments) "Dean Edwards has taken it upon himself to make Internet Explorer W3C compliant. How? Well, it isn't by patching the application, as you might suspect. He's created a stylesheet, dubbed 'IE7' that uses DHTML to load and parse style sheets into a form that IE can understand. Just include the style sheet in your HTML pages, and things should render correctly. The complexity of the CSS transformations is really amazing and shows off the power of this stuff."
